ANZAC DAY
 

4月25日（金）は、「ANZAC DAY(アンザック・ディ」というオーストラリアの祝日です。

ANZACというのは、Australia New Zealand Army Corps 、つまり「オーストラリアニュージーランド連合軍」という意味で、第１次大戦中の1915年4月25日に、トルコのガリポリ半島にアンザック軍が上陸した日を記念し、そこで亡くなった兵士達の慰霊をする日となっています。

現在は、第１次大戦で亡くなった人達だけでなく、これまでの数々の戦争で亡くなった兵士や関係者の人達の慰霊をするとともに、世界の平和を祈る日になっています。

オーストラリア各地でそれぞれに慰霊祭が行われますが、アデレードでも、朝6時15分から、市内ノーステラスとキントーアベニュー（Cnr North Terrace and Kintore Ave.）の角にある戦争兵士慰霊塔の前で、ドーンサービス（Dawn Service）、夜明けの慰霊式典が行われます。
朝6時頃までに会場に向かうと参加できます。

又、ノーステラスとキングウィリアムストリート、キントーアベニューを通って、ノースアデレードのペニントン庭園(Pennington Gardens)まで、オーストラリア陸軍や退役軍人、そしてその家族などによる平和行進が行われます。
9時半頃から始まり、11時半頃まで続きます。

そのあと、大十字架の前での慰霊式典も行われることになっています。

 

This Friday, the 25th of April, is one of the most significant national holidays in Australia, ANZAC Day.

ANZAC DAY marks the anniversary of the Anzac’s landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on 25 April, 1915. ANZAC Day is commemorated around Australia by a solemn ceremony that remembers the contribution and sacrifice of soldiers who fought in the trenches at Gallipoli during World War One. It also shows gratitude for all men and women who have played a part in all wars.

 

The Anzac Day Dawn Service will be held at 6.15am on Sunday 25 April at the State War Memorial, Cnr North Terrace and Kintore Ave. Those wishing to attend are advised to arrive prior to 6.00am.

The Anzac Day March will begin at 9.30am from the State War Memorial and proceed down North Terrace and King William Street to the Cross of Sacrifice in Pennington Gardens, North Adelaide. After the completion of the March (approx. 11.30am) there will be a Remembrance Service at the Cross of Sacrifice.
